Southwark faith groups share concern about Universal Credit

If you are a faith leader and are concerned about the impact of Universal Credit on some of the poorest members of your local community, then we urge you to join with other faith leaders and sign a letter to local politicians expressing our support for them in challenging the structure of the new benefits system.

Being effective: Safeguarding children and families from the practice of FGM

featured-image-indexSouthwark Council are putting on an event for Churches to increase their awareness of responsibilities towards safeguarding for families and children especially with relation to FGM.

Audience: Designated persons/ leads; PSHE leads in schools; professionals and frontline staff across services including health, social care and the council, and faith group leaders

Date and time: 27th April 2017 at 1.30pm -4.00pm

Venue: Rotherhithe Primary School, Rotherhithe New Road, London SE16 2PL

Course information: This event will inform colleagues’ knowledge and understanding of FGM as well as share good practice in terms of strategies

Course outcomes:
• Develop an understanding of the beliefs and ideas influencing the practice of FGM
• Hear from survivors and a holistic approach to the care of women
• Explore ways of talking to children about FGM
• Share good practice across the different sectors
• Develop a joined up approach

Peckham Churches Good Friday Gathering Fri 14th April 2017

church crowd 22.2.17The Peckham Group of Churches have submitted an application to Southwark Council to hold an event for this year’s Good Friday. We await the outcome of this submission.

The various participants of Peckham Churches are coming together to mark Good Friday with a short procession from Rye Lane Chapel down Rye Lane to Peckham Square for an hour of creative content including:

  • performance by a rapper on the theme of the occasion
  • drama performance on the theme of Good Friday
  • singing and readings

So please do join us at 10am outside Rye Lane Baptist Church and process down to Peckham Square for 10.30am for the main content until 11.30am.

Camberwell’s future?

Sat 15 Nov 2014 (1.00pm) go along to the Camberwell Community Council meeting at the Employment Academy, 29 Peckham Road SE5 8UA to discuss regeneration and transport in Camberwell.

Topics include the Bakerloo line extension, the New Southwark Plan and what this means for Camberwell, cycling and green spaces. You’ll also get chance to say how you think the council should set its budget for 2015/16 and lots more.

 

Artwork will be displayed from local primary school children who have done pictures on what Camberwell might look like to them in the future.
